New release – Chianti Classico 2021, Montefili – £12.50 per bottle IB

We have just shipped the exceptional, newly released, 2021 Chianti Classico from Vecchie Terre di Montefilli. The vineyards sit high above the picture-perfect town of Panzano in the heart of Tuscany, this is without doubt one of the most beautiful and exciting estates that we have visited in the region.

Winemaker Serena Gusmeri (pictured above) makes beautifully nuanced wines, which have power as well as superb balance and elegance, these are never overworked or try too hard. While the 2021 vintage was exceptional for all the estate’s wines, and for Tuscany in general, it was the Chianti Classico which really stood out as the overperformer in the range, more so when factoring in the more than reasonable price – just £12.50 per bottle In Bond.

In Antonio Galloni’s recent article, Montefili’s Chianti Classico was the highest rated of all the Chianti Classico’s tasted, with 94 points, outscoring a great many Riserva and Gran Selezione Chianti costing significantly more per bottle.
