Elodie worked for 11 years at the inimitable Anne Gros in Vosne-Romanee but decided in 2018 to return to her family Domaine in Maranges. Elodie believes 80% of the work is in the vineyards and works very hard with her vines to produce pure, balanced and very fine examples of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from this under represented appellation.
Elodie Roy is one of Burgundy’s most exciting new winemakers. Latimer are delighted to have started working with her last year, officially kicking off with the excellent 2022 vintage in early 2024.
Elodie’s very first vintage at her own estate was 2018, working with vines that were planted by her father and grandfather, often as far back as the 1930s & 50s. Back when the domaine was run by her grandfather and then her father, the production was sold off in bulk. However, since taking the reigns, Elodie is ending fermage agreements and increasingly keeping back a larger percentage of the production for herself. New cuvées continue to enter the fold as leases draw to a close.
Previously Elodie was winemaker at Anne Gros in Vosne-Romanée for 10 years before decideding to return to her family Domaine in Maranges. 2022 was only her 5th vintage since starting up on her own, but we have followed her progress closely and visited her winery numerous times in previous years. This progress has been wonderful to witness, and in both whites and reds, the wines display exquisite harmony and fruit purity.
She now works with 10 hectares of Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, Maranges and Santenay and has developed a reputation in a short time as one of the most exciting producers in these appellations. Elodie believes 80% of the work is in the vineyards and works very hard with her vines to produce pure, balanced and very fine examples of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from these underrepresented appellations. Along with Alex and Marc of Domaine Bachelet-Monnot, Elodie is helping to catapult Maranges up the ranks as a credible alternative to more famous Côte d’Or appellations, and you only need to drive the short distance from Chassagne-Montrachet to see for yourself why.
She has moved towards organic and sustainable farming practices. The resulting wines are characterised by a refined elegance and plenty of terroir expression, but most importantly they are delicious and very approachable even early in their life. Plans for a new winery are on the horizon, as Elodie seeks to further promote the full potential of Maranges and her vines.
