Domaine Gerard Julien & Fils was founded over 140 years ago in the small town of Comblanchien, situated between Beaune and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Over five generations the Domaine has grown to stand at 10.5ha and has holdings both in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Never a Domaine which historically grabbed many headlines – Etienne's grandfather was the first Julien to live solely as a winemaker – that has changed since the arrival of Etienne Julien in 2012. Etienne has instilled a new energy and vigour into the property and the wines. He has converted to organic practices, reduced yields, and cut out the use of chemicals from the vineyard. His meticulous cellar (a new chai and cellar will be completed in 2023) and vineyard work result in transparent, pure wines with marked difference site to site.
Etienne crafts wines much like his personality – charming, honest, bold, joyous and energetic with a little rustic charm. These are wines to seek out and to follow.
