EnquiryNotes of plums, sweet berries, raw cocoa and grilled squab, framed by a touch of youthful reduction, introduce the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey, a medium to full-bodied, ample and lively wine that’s sapid and savory. This will demand a little patience but may make my rating seem conservative.

Benjamin Leroux has established himself as one of the most talented and versatile winemakers in Burgundy. Having made a name for himself as regisseur of Domaine du Comte Armand, so much so he was courted to take over the reins at Domaine Leflaive, he decided in to set up his own Domaine and micro-négoce in 2007. Although originally from Burgundy, he does not come from a vigneron family and gained experience with the likes of Cos d'Estournel in Bordeaux, Domaine Drouhin in Oregon and Louis Jadot in Beaune.
Ben has enviable holdings and contracts throughout Burgundy, from village level to Grand Cru, for both reds and whites, with over 50 different wines being made in most vintages. He is an ardent follower of organic and biodynamic viticultural practices and is on a constant search for aromatic intensity and purity in his wines. This is an impressive set up and the wines are well worth exploring.

What happens if I purchase On Order wines?
When you purchase On Order wines, no UK Duty / VAT or shipping costs will be charged at checkout. Once the wines have arrived at our warehouse, a member of the team will be in touch to organise the delivery, storage or collection as per your preferences, and arrange any additional invoicing required.

Do you buy wines from small, independent collectors?
James and Michael have had extensive experience in valuing cellars large and small. We will be delighted to offer prices on all wines and we are in a position to buy stock outright or broker wines on a your behalf. We are confident that our prices are amongst the most competitive in the market.

Why are some wines only available for customers based in the UK?
For some of our producers from whom we buy directly, the agreement has been put in place that we can only sell these wines to the UK market. On the wines for which this applies, there is a sign saying UK only on the product pages.
