Tasting Notes
Vinous 89/100
The 1997 Climens is a wine that I have tasted three of four times, but it has never convinced me that it is a top-drawer offering. It has quite a powerful, rather mushroom-like bouquet with apricot and dried honey, though I would have liked a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied though never really "lifts off", the finish just missing a bit of presence. A rare slipped catch from this estate? It would seem so.

Tasted at Roberson’s Sauternes Tasting. A little darker in colour, the Climens ’97 has marmalade, molasses, apricot, Manuka honey and yellow plum on the nose with just a hint of green fruit lending it freshness. The palate has good weight and a viscous texture: marmalade, quince, spice, refined but quite linear towards the finish and does not really a oeexplodea like other vintages. It remains a strangely a oeunmovinga Climens given the vintage. Tasted May 2011.
