Tasting Notes

Lovely toasty nose, but not sweet. Very winning (like the 2005!) Not Margaux-lite, just early-sprouting Margaux. Nice graphite finish. GV

The Segla 2014 is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. It has a simple blackberry and briar-scented bouquet, just a touch of fresh black olive coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with dry, rather scrawny tannin and it feels a little pinched and austere towards the finish. To be honest, I was seeking more substance here, a bit more breeding.

A delicious second wine, the 2014 Segla is showing beautifully today. Bright red cherry, raspberry, cinnamon and citrus notes abound in a fresh, invigorating wine to drink in its youth. I very much like the sense of energy here. This is pure class. The Segla is not sold en primeur, but is typically released a few years after bottling, when the estate feels the wine is ready to be enjoyed. The current releases are 2008 and 2009.
