Vinous 93

Dark ruby. Highly perfumed, mineral- and spice-tinged red and dark berry liqueur, floral, cracked pepper and olive scents on the nose. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering juicy black raspberry and blueberry flavors, along with suggestions of candied flowers and star licorice. Shows very good energy and spicy lift on a long, penetrating finish that features repeating floral and spice notes and polished tannins. [Josh Raynolds, 22/12/2022]

Ogier’s 2019 Saint Joseph le Passage marries cherries and raspberries with modest herbal notes in a fruity, direct effort. Medium to full-bodied and reasonably silky in feel, it won’t make you forget this estate’s terrific wines from Cote Rotie, but it’s not priced like those wines either. [Joe Czerwinski, 25/09/2021]

Prior to producing benchmark Côte-Rôtie, much of the Ogier’s land was used for apricot production as opposed to wine. As the area under vine increased, the fruit began to be sold to the likes of the Guigal and Chapoutier estates. That all changed in 1987 when Michel Ogier began bottling wines under his own name before being joined by his son, Stephane, in 1998. Since Stephane's arrival, Domaine Ogier has been on an upward trajectory, scoring numerous 100 point scores with leading critics.

Stephane honed his craft in Burgundy and this influence shines through in his wines. Each prime parcel – dotted throughout Cote Rotie, on the Cote Blonde, Brune and Cote Rosiers, is vinified separately. The fruit is 80% destemmed and the use of new oak is generally restricted to the top cuvée’s, although this changes depending on the parcel and vintage. The resulting wines are expressive, classy and suave. It is clear to see why the Ogier wines are now some of the most sought after Côte-Rôtie’s around.

What happens if I purchase On Order  wines?

When you purchase On Order wines, no UK Duty / VAT or shipping costs will be charged at checkout. Once the wines have arrived at our warehouse, a member of the team will be in touch to organise the delivery, storage or collection as per your preferences, and arrange any additional invoicing required.

I want to start collecting wine, where do I start?

We specialise in offering a custom service where one of our expert team can advise you on how to start and what considerations you need to make. You can contact us directly if you have any further questions.

Do you buy wines from small, independent collectors?

James and Michael have had extensive experience in valuing cellars large and small. We will be delighted to offer prices on all wines and we are in a position to buy stock outright or broker wines on a your behalf. We are confident that our prices are amongst the most competitive in the market.

For some of our producers from whom we buy directly, the agreement has been put in place that we can only sell these wines to the UK market. On the wines for which this applies, there is a sign saying UK only on the product pages.
